UP NEC’s rainwater collection drums received a splash of color thanks to the creativity of 5 young artists from the UP College of Fine Arts (UPCFA).

The project started in June 2022 as UP NEC materialized its sustainability efforts. The drums were donated by Engr. Manuel R. Bulaong and were decided to be painted on for aesthetics. They sought the help of then UPCFA dean, Prof. Mitzi Reyes, for volunteers. The call was then answered by 5 FA students in the persons of Marcy Lioanag, Mitch Mangalindan, Cybil Adavan, Shamgar Espina, Christian Asoy and Diosa.

The team provided UP NEC with draft designs that will be used. And in order to make the artwork withstand weather conditions, acrylic latex paint and acrylic emulsion were used to give vibrant colors and protection.

And on August 4, 2022, the finished artworks were turned over to UP NEC, accepting it is none other than its Deputy Executive Director Dr. Rosalie Reyes, joined by Ms. Ellen Ignacio and Ms. Arlene de Ocampo.

The drums will be placed below each pipe to contain rainwater which will then be utilized for watering the plants in its urban farm and landscaping.
