Solar PV Resource and Installation Assessment Using Geospatial Technologies (SINAG) Year 1

Brief Description:

Project SINAG is a two-year research project under the Joint Research Project between the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) of the Philippines and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of the People’s Republic of China.

The project is being implemented by the Training Center for Applied Geodesy and Photogrammetry (TCAGP) and the UP National Engineering Center (UPNEC).  It aims to accurately assess the potential output power that can be harnessed from Solar PV installations using remotely sensed data and forecasting model.

Project SINAG team held a face-to-face meeting last December 3, 2021 at their office in Room 305 of the National Engineering Center in UP Diliman. The team has been on a work-from-home setup ever since the start of the project, but this is one of the first face-to-face meetings of the team where research updates and issues are discussed.
A site visit at the EEEI building was conducted last Dec 15, 2021. Several facilities were inspected including the Solar Research Laboratory, PV installations at the rooftop of EEEI building and PV installations at the rooftop of EEEI parking. An on-site experiment will be set-up to quantify the effects of dust accumulation and high temperature on solar PV efficiency.
The Project SINAG team members conducted their first face-to-face meeting at the National Engineering Center on December 10, 2021 facilitated by the project leader Dr. Jeark A. Principe.  Team members presented research updates and discussed strategies on how to effectively meet the objectives of the research. An online meeting via Zoom was held last November 24, 2021 with Project SINAG’s Chinese counterparts. China Meteorological Administration (CMA) Public Meteorological Service Center presented their research on key technologies for solar energy resources evaluation and PV potential in low latitude areas. Project team members were introduced to each other, expectations from both teams were leveraged, and preferred communication avenues were finalized for an easier exchange of data and information.
The Project SINAG staff, both full time and part time, held an introductory meeting to virtually welcome its members through Zoom on October 1, 2021. Expectations for the project, and for both SolarPot and OutSolar components, were discussed through a brief presentation of the objectives.
