The University of the Philippines College of Engineering (UP-COE) and the UP National Engineering Center (UP-NEC), in partnership with WJ Groundwater Philippines, conducted a special i-conNECt on Groundwater Management last October 19, 2023, at the UP NEC Audio Visual Room in UP Diliman. The event was also streamed online via Facebook.
The main speaker of this event is Dr. Toby Roberts. He has over 40 years of experience and is recognised internationally as an expert in the design and implementation of construction dewatering systems.
Dr. Roberts is a geologist and a civil engineer. He has authored and co-authored 40 publications, which include CIRIA C750 (Ground Water, Design and Practices) in 2016 and the UK best practice design manual for dewatering systems. He is currently the Executive Chairman of WJ Philippines, a private company that offers complete design, drilling, installation, and 24/7 maintenance service for all groundwater management and control requirements.
A Q&A portion was also conducted, which was generously answered by the speaker. The seminar was attended by students, faculty members and industry practitioners all over the Philippines via Facebook Live.
Asst. Prof. Imee Bren Villalba, member of the UP Institute of Civil Engineering Water Resources and Coastal Engineering Group (WRCEG), served as the host and moderator of the seminar.
The i-conNECt series of seminars/webinars aims to disseminate information and provide a venue for discussion among the industry, academe and the government on important issues affecting the nation. It aims to spread awareness about relevant topics in engineering and how they affect the lives of ordinary people.
