The University of the Philippines National Engineering Center (UP NEC) would like to invite you to i-conNECt Special Offering: SUSTAINABLE FUTURES AND DISASTER RESILIENCE & MANAGEMENT on 02 June 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the UP NEC Audio-Visual Room. It is also available via Zoom Meetings and will be live-streamed via Facebook Live.
With us is Dr. Greg Foliente, a 2023 Balik Scientist Program (BSP) Awardee and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the De La Salle University, hosted by the Advanced Research Institute on Informatics, Computing and Networking (AdRIC) in collaboration with the Enrique Razon Logistics Institute (ERLI). He is currently Professor of Infrastructure and Urban Systems in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Melbourne in Australia.
He leads interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research, education, consulting and collaboration initiatives dealing with systems innovation, sustainability and resilience, especially as they apply to the built environment, urban, energy and freight and logistics systems, and the disaster management sector. His knowledge, experience and interests span the full life cycle of knowledge development from academic research, to applied R&D and their translation into practice, policy and standards, and commercialisation. A scholar and scientist of global standing, he has a publications record ranked in the top 1% amongst Civil Engineering researchers worldwide (based on the Stanford-Elsevier composite citation index) and a recipient of the prestigious ASCE James Croes Medal and the SWST George Marra Excellence Award, amongst others. He received his PhD and 2 MSc degrees at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in the US, BSc in Civil Engineering at Mapua University in the Philippines, and executive leadership and management training at the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the MIT Sloan Executive Education.
i-conNECt aims to showcase scientific projects, research works, and accomplishments in the field of engineering. The symposium also aims to raise awareness on the value of engineering and science and their critical roles in improving the quality of life of ordinary people.
i-conNECt will be using the presentation format of TED-type talk that is short, concise and idea-focused, provokes conversations that matter, and fosters learning, inspiration, and wonder.
